Internet in China

While searching for articles about internet in China there were a few things that I found to be very interesting. One thing is that I found to be interesting is that the country cut off all internet access to websites beyond it’s borders. This was interesting to me because their government has that much control that they actually cut off access to websites that are beyond the country’s borders.

Another thing that I found interesting is that I found to be interesting is that just a week ago China had closed 42 websites and deleted more than 210,000 post in a crackdown of rumors. This was something that stuck out to me because in America we do not have the issue of the government shutting down websites for providing false information. To an extent, I do agree with this. I feel that the government is doing it’s part in making sure that the people of it’s country is getting the right information and not getting false information from the internet.

The amount of control that the government has over their internet is so shocking to me. Before doing research on internet in China, I never knew that their government did use that much of their power to control what their people see. In contrast to the United States, the government in China is definitely using their power to control what their country is seeing.

Hadoop is a big deal because it can hold more data than you can easily store and process, and it was made famous by Google, Yahoo, and Facebook. Also it is a big deal because it is an open source. Cloudera is a company that distributes Hadoop to a larger community. They make support available for commercial and personal use. PIG is a higher level language for easy ad-hoc analysi. Great for researchers and technical product managers. Developed at Yahoo. Hive is a sql interface for Hadoop. Allows you to collect data and impose structure on the data later. Great for analysts familiar with existing system. Developed at Facebook. Cassandra is used for a lot of users requesting and updating information. Design points included incremental scalability and low system administration overhead; Cassandra could be useful in many places where a horizontally partitioned (‘sharded”) MySQL instance is currently deployed. Mahout is a machine-learning tool. By enabling you to build machine-learning libraries that are scalable to “reasonably large” datasets, it aims to make building intelligent applications easier and faster.

Energy Production

The motion chart above is showing the CO2 emission per capita on the Y-Axis and is showing the GDP Per Capita on the X-Axis. The two countries that are labeled in the graph above are the United State of America and China. If you click play on the motion chart you will noticed that the United States has one of the highest correlations between their CO2 Emissions and their GDP per capita.

The pipe that I created on Yahoo Pipes is for my pipe to use Yahoo Local to find nearby pizza places near my home address. After they have found nearby pizza restaurants the pipe will filter through the results to find only those pizza places who Title includes "Marco's" or "Pizza Hut".

Electric Telegraph

When you analyze the electric telegraph you will see that there are many ways that the electric telegraph is similar to the internet. One way that the electric telegraph and internet are alike is that both of these inventions were used as way to communicate news and entertainment. Also, just as communication through the web today has very many acronyms, so did the electric telegraph to make communication between people easier and faster. Lastly, they both have had a huge impact on how people all over the globe communicate with each other.
On the other hand, the electric telegraph and internet have many differences. One difference is that communication between people on the electric telegraph was wired from place to place, as the internet is mainly wireless communication from network to network. Secondly, with the telegraph having a wired connection, communication between humans was limited to a certain distance, as oppose to you being able to easily send an email to someone who is located anywhere in the world. Lastly, the telegraph was mainly used for sending individual messages, whereas since the invention of the internet it has had more uses than just communication, such as e-commerce and searching for information.
The thing that I found the most interesting about the telegraph is that when it was first invented it had wired connections and was very limited on the distance in which you could communicate message. It made it easy for you to communicate with someone who wasn't far away, but they still faced the problem of communicating with people greater than the distance which the line covered.
